Folders and Files

Now that you know what is in your site, it is time for you to start adding to it.  The first step is to start making folders for each main section of your site.

To make a folder:

  • In FrontPage 2000 or 2002, go to the drop down menu called FILE.
  • Choose NEW and then FOLDER.
  • In FrontPage 2003, right click on your mail folder (your domain name) and click new, page and name it.
  • Remember to name your folder something short with no spaces that pertains to your section topic.
  • Also,  use lower case letters when naming your folders.
  • Do not use spaces in any folder or page name.

The next step is to start making pages.  There are two methods for doing this.  Please try both out and use the one you feel most comfortable with.

 To make a new page:

  • To start from the beginning, create a new page by going to the drop down menu called File.
  • Choose NEW and then PAGE and name it whatever you want.
  • For FrontPage 2003, simply right click on the main domain name (upper left) and select NEW and then BLANK PAGE and name it.

Copy and Paste Method:

  • Open template (if you have already created your template of your site).  It will open up in the editor.

  • Then go to the menu EDIT and choose SELECT ALL.

  • The template should turn all black.

  • Then while the template is black, go to EDIT and choose COPY.

  • Then go to FILE and choose NEW.

  • A NEW box will appear on the screen.  Don't do anything with it (the NORMAL
PAGE should be highlighted) and hit OK.

  • A blank screen should appear and up at the very top it should say [NEW PAGE 1].

  • There should be a black blinking cursor on the page, select the menu EDIT
and then PASTE.  And what you copied from the template should appear.

  • Now we need to save it to its new folder....Go to the menu FILE and choose SAVE AS.

  • The SAVE AS BOX should appear in the middle of your screen.

  • You should see the list of folders that are part of your site.

  • Double click on the folder you want to save this page to.

  • Then where is says URL type in what you want to call this page.

  • (For example parenting.shtml or article1.shtml, remember make sure it says
    shtml!)

  • Then type in a new title for that page.

  • Then hit ok.  And your new page should be saved to its new home.

Resave Method:

  • Open template.  It will open up in the editor.

  • You can either make some changes first or re-save it first and then make changes.

  • Go to menu FILE and choose SAVE AS.

  • The SAVE AS BOX should appear in the middle of your screen.  You should see the list of folders that are part of your site.

  • Double click on the folder you want to save this page to.

  • Then where is says URL type in what you want to call this page.  (For example parenting.shtml or article1.shtml, remember make sure it says shtml!)

  • Then type in a new title for that page.

  • Then hit ok!  And you will have a new page and it should be saved to its new
    home!
