Site defaced?

Just a quick update to the clients who had their sites defaced by the Saudi Arabia hacker.  All defaced pages have been replaced with backups.  We were able to restore from last night's backup, but a few had to be restored from the weekly backup which was 6/10/10.

Let this be a reminder to each of you the importance of maintaining your own backups.  If you do not know how to do it, please login to your cpanel and click on "backups" from there, you can download a /home/ directory backup.  If you have databases running on your site, you'll need those as well.  Be sure to then save that large file to your own computer or create a backup disk (cd) and save it for later.  Run a new backup any time you make major changes to your site.  Be sure to then delete the backup copy you have saved on your site because that's like storing two full sites on your hosting account and you'll run out of space quickly.

If you have an FTP program on your computer, use it.  Download all of your files and don't forget to get a copy of your sql (databases) if you are using any.  If you do not have a FTP program, you can get File Zilla right here for free:  http://filezilla-project.org/download.php

We'll be putting together tutorials on how to use File Zilla. It's a File Transferring Program so you can download and/or upload files from your computer to your site with ease.  This is a great program.

If you had File Zilla and a backup copy of your files that you downloaded previously through FTP, then to combat this hacker, all you needed to do was reload your index-named pages.  You would have been back in business literally in minutes!  Instead many had to wait for me to process backups which is a time-consuming job.

For those that did have their backups:  GOOD FOR YOU!

If you have questions or any issues with your sites, simply open a help ticket.

Thank you!
