Attention Bandit server clients..... Changes!
Effective immediately, we've made some major changes on this server. Thanks to the PCI compliant requirements, we had to restrict a few things and implement a few others. Although we were secure in our original setup per updates that are available, we had to restrict some components "just because" to make the computers running the scans happy. Unfortunately these computers that scan servers are just that - computers. If they actually had real people looking at servers on a case by case basis, we wouldn't have to make any changes. Real people know that what works on one server may not be used or needed on another. In reality for us - it's a no-win situation. So we were forced to make these changes that will affect many of you including all Front Page users.
Although Microsoft hasn't officially announced the end of Front Page and we do have the latest version of extensions installed, this caused a red flag on the computer scan for PCI compliance. So... we had no choice but to restrict extensions on this particular server. Anyone needing to have Front Page extensions on, please fill out a help ticket and we'll move you around to one of our many other servers. You will want to start looking into upgrading to Front Page's new version which does not require Front Page extensions which is called Expressions Web. Many of the parts on this program will look familiar, but be prepared for a lifestyle change so to speak. I do not have any ETA on the end of Front Page extensions as Microsoft hasn't released any official word on it. It could be years from now. I really don't know.
Also, another change we had to make is that you can no longer access your domain through the direct server link so there will be no more shared secure certificates which would work this way. Shared certificates were a sign of the times anyhow because with newer windows versions, your visitors would still get a warning. Secure Certs are as low as 25.00/yr, so there really is no reason to go without one - if you are in the situation where you are collecting credit cards. You must use your domain name only to access your web sites. There will be no more: http://bandit.thedesignshoppe.com/~user
Again, these were changes that were ridiculous for us to have to do as our servers were secured originally. But, we have to make the "computer" scanning our servers happy. Please let us know if we can help you with anything.
Thank you.
